THE disappearance of a young Lithuanian woman has been upgraded to murder, the Irish Daily Mail can reveal.

Giedre Raguckaite, 29, originally from Lithuania, was last seen in Dundalk, Co. Louth, on May 26.

She last spoke to family members in Lithuania in early June.

Investigating detectives believe the young woman was murdered by two of her fellow countrymen, who are involved in serious crime and drug dealing in Louth.

An Garda Síochána has not formally announced that the case has been upgraded, but it is understood that the missing woman’s family

‘Men considered to be ruthless’

has been informed.

The development is a consequence of new evidence coming to light that ‘warrants an upgrade to murder’, according to sources.

It is understood that of the two Lithuanian suspects, who have been living in Co. Louth for a number of years, one has not been tracked down by gardaí while the other is serving a prison sentence for another offence.

The missing woman was last seen at 6pm on Hoey’s Lane in Dundalk town on May 26.

She contacted her father on June 2 to wish him a happy Father’s Day.

Ms Raguckaite is from the Lithuanian city of Kaunas. Detectives have established that she has not used her bank account since she disappeared.

Ms Raguckaite moved to Ireland in March. She previously lived in Norfolk in the UK and gardaí have sought the assistance of British and Lithuanian police.

After she disappeared, her family issued an emotional plea to help find her. The young woman’s family said her sister Gintare was ‘crying every night’ as a result.

It is understood that friends and family in both Ireland and Lithuania have had grave concerns ‘for some time’ that she may have ‘fallen foul’ of the two Lithuanian suspects.

It is understood that gardaí ‘have not ruled out’ that the 29-year-old may have been abducted and drugged by the two suspects.

The two men are considered by gardaí to be ‘dangerous and ruthless’ and ‘may have been willing’ to kill her if she ‘didn’t do exactly what they wanted’.
