The Spices are back... but no, not in Ireland*
*and they’re one short
THE Spice Girls have finally confirmed their long-awaited reunion tour. But in what could yet cause a serious diplomatic incident, the girl band’s tour dates do NOT include a gig on our shores.
Despite their huge fan base in Ireland, anyone hoping to attend the band’s first shows in a decade will have to travel over to the UK. Some Irish fans took to social media to vent their frustration.
Twitter user Holly Shortall posted: ‘So not only have they reformed minus a member, the Spice Girls have also not bothered with an Irish tour date.’
Another fan, Tasha, tweeted: ‘Well the Spice Girls aren’t coming to Ireland… 16 year old me is crying’ – while another social media user posted: ‘So Spice Girls reunite and don’t even bother to come to Ireland? I’m very offended to say the least.’
The band’s music has an Irish connection, with the video for their hit song Stop filmed in Stoneybatter in Dublin. However, some people are holding out hope that an Irish date could still be announced, with bookmakers Paddy Power tipping the group at 5/4 to headline a gig at Croke Park next summer.
Let love lead the way, Girls...
