Revolt opened ‘gates to hell’
EGYPT’S president Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has said the 2011 Arab Spring ‘opened the gates to hell’.
Mr el-Sissi, pictured – who in 2013 led the military overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi – told an international youth conference that those behind the 2011 revolt had good intentions.
However, he said the uprising was an ill-advised attempt at change, the chaotic aftermath of which posed an existential threat to the nation.
