YOUNG KEEPER KELLEHER CAN BE A KOP KING
CAOIMHIN KELLEHER is the surprise name in Liverpool’s 21-man travelling party here in Belgrade — but he could become a fixture in the future. The 19-year-old (below), who is from Cork, is Liverpool’s No 3 goalkeeper and his progress this summer made the decision to sell Danny Ward to Leicester much easier. Jurgen Klopp holds him in high regard and was instrumental in the decision to hand Kelleher a new contract, which he signed in August. Kelleher, an Ireland Under 21 international, played in pre-season and caught the eye during a game with Manchester City in New Jersey when his efforts included superbly denying Leroy Sane from close range. He is a keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and it is easy to see him soon challenging Simon Mignolet to be Alisson’s deputy. Kelleher was also called into Martin O’Neill’s senior squad before September’s friendly with Poland.
