Missing woman brought into house unconscious by two men, say gardaí

- By Michelle O’Keeffe

GARDAÍ investigating the murder of a woman believe she was unconscious when she was brought into a house by two men.

Giedre Raguckaite, 29, originally from Lithuania, was last seen alive in a house in Laytown, Co. Meath, on May 29 of this year.

Ms Raguckaite spoke to her father in Lithuania that day on the phone. Several hours later she was brought into a house in the Beach Grove estate ‘not in a very good condition’ by two Lithuanian men, gardaí revealed yesterday.

Investigating officers received reports that she was put into an ice bath and was taken from the house several hours later in the early morning by two men, whom gardaí believe were known to the victim.

The Garda Technical Bureau was yesterday carrying out a forensic examination of the house, which is understood to be rented by a family who are ‘co-operating with the investigation’.

Ms Raguckaite, who is from the Lithuanian city of Kaunas, came to Ireland from the UK in April and lived in a house in College Heights, Dundalk, Co. Louth, until she left the residence on May 23. Gardaí are trying to establish where she was staying for the six days before she was last seen alive being taken into the house in Laytown. Investigating officers said she has not been in contact with family or friends since then and has not used her bank account.

Ms Raguckaite was reported missing on August 22. Superintendent Gerard Curley said yesterday she was a vulnerable young woman who was trying to find work in Ireland. Gardaí are appealing to anybody with information to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
