NOW that nearly every mobile phone has a camera, it seems you can’t go anywhere without being asked to pose for a picture.

Yet, while some women look fabulous in every photo, many of us dread being snapped — and never feel happy with the way we look in the finished shot.

But what if there were an easy way to guarantee you were picture-perfect?

Photographer John Godwin, who specialises in celebrity headshots, explains that the key to a great photograph is knowing how to pose — and it all depends on your face shape.

Learn the right pose for your face, be it square, oval, heart-shaped or round, and you’ve cracked the code for looking good: no make-up or filters needed.

First, says John, you should work out your ‘best’ side — it’s something all celebrities and models are aware of and use to their advantage in photoshoots.

‘Each of us has one side that looks better than the other,’ adds John. ‘To find yours, simply turn your face slightly to the left and take a photo, then repeat while looking to the right. Whichever side looks best, that’s the one that should be closest to the camera.’

Next, get the lighting right. ‘When light bathes your face, the resulting picture will always be more flattering, as light smooths out problem areas such as wrinkles,’ says John. ‘Soft light coming from the direction of the camera is best, so have the photographer stand between you and the sun or main light source.’

Now, find your face shape and you’re ready to start working those angles . . .
