Dear Linda, I have been in a relationship for the past five years, and although I love my partner dearly our relationship has become dull and to say the least boring.

My partner spends most of his time on social media, and the only time he is interested in going out is with his mates. It has come to a stage where we socialise separately. We have a mortgage together.

My partner talks about getting married and having a family, and while I would like to, I feel if he makes no effort now, what would it be like if we had children? F.

Unfortunately you are not alone in experiencing the effects of social media. While it is important to keep up contact with friends outside your relationship, it is not healthy to have them take the place of each other.

You are correct in wondering what life would be like if you married and started a family. Relationships are a two-way street, and it’s time to sit down and have an honest heart-to heart with your partner and request some reasonable changes.

Perhaps suggest a holiday together to reignite the passion that is obviously either missing or taken for granted. It’s important in relationships to review them on a regular basis, and bear in mind you cannot read each others minds.
