Poch urges Eriksen to stick with Spurs
MAURICIO POCHETTINO has warned Christian Eriksen not to turn his back on Tottenham and end a partnership which has nurtured his talent. Eriksen has resisted all offers to extend and improve a contract which expires in 2020 and is thought to earn him £70,000 a week. ‘It is true Christian is a very good player,’ said the Spurs boss. ‘When he was signed he was a very good player at Ajax, but still young and Tottenham have provided a very good platform for him to develop his quality. ‘It has been good for Tottenham and good for Christian Eriksen. I hope Christian continues to develop his career with us.’ Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus are among those on alert and a big-money bid would force Tottenham to consider selling the 26-year-old in the summer. Chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to double Eriksen’s salary but will not want to lose him on a free transfer in 2020. ‘Christian is going to take the decision that is best for him,’ said Pochettino. ‘But I’d prefer it if he signed the new contract and spent a long time with us.’ Eriksen has been struggling with an abdominal strain but played twice for Denmark during the international break. Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez could be out until the new year with a hamstring injury but Jan Vertonghen is fit to face Chelsea at Wembley tomorrow. Tottenham have established the right to spend the rest of the season at the national stadium if necessary as their £850million White Hart Lane is completed. Pochettino said: ‘My idea is to move as soon as possible. I hope if it is not January, then it is February. I was there checking the facilities and it is so close.’
