My husband doesn’t babysit... he parents!

Sonya Lennon opens up on sharing family duties, the gender pay gap and making fashion accessible to all

The customer is at the forefront of Lennon Courtney – she and Brendan listen to what women want and constantly deliver stylish pieces that are timeless and fashionable without making women look like overzealous followers of trends.

Setting up the business was a bit like having children, Sonya says: You just go because you don’t know any different.

Dress For Success was a baptism of fire, taking an idea and turning it into a reality and Lennon Courtney was exactly the same.

There is such a buzz in doing that – even if you fail. Something does exist and then it doesn’t exist and I made that moment. If I see people at events who are wearing Lennon Courtney I will cross the room and tell them they are wearing it really well because that is an intense source of pride.’ And due to her own success Sonya is currently working on a new business programme with RTE that will air in 2019, as well as all her other interests. So dare we ask about that work/life balance? ‘I have had periods where I haven’t balanced family and work life and I have absolutely skewed in favour of work and I have had others where I have skewed in favour of family.

‘But it is about understanding where needs you most at any given time and self-correcting to achieve that balance. I think the most important element of all of that is to be selfishly generous. Put your own oxygen mask on first so that you are physically and emotionally fit for purpose for everybody.’ ÷Sonya Lennon is an ambassador for Audi, and was speaking at the launch of the new Audi 191 campaign.
