TEENAGER PARROTT GETS SPURS BOOST

- By STEPHEN YOUNG

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Troy Parrott could soon be thrust into Premier League action after Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino hinted that the Republic of Ireland youth international is ready to play. The Dubliner travelled with the Spurs squad for their 2-0 win away to Leicester City on Saturday and, while he did not make the bench, Pochettino still made sure to namecheck the teenage striker. ‘All the players that we have in the squad, the younger ones like Oliver Skipp or Troy Parrott, who was in the match squad today for the first time, it’s because they’re involved in the first team during days, during weeks, during months, and it’s only to give the possibility to play. ‘I don’t doubt and I am not worried about players who are injured or don’t perform in their best, because we have another who can replace them. I promise we are going to win or lose with one or another.’ Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal, however, won’t be relishing the sit-down to pore over their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday. The Gunners struggled to create much in a physical affair that was seven minutes away from Huddersfield stealing a point at the Emirates. But a moment of brilliance from Matteo Guendouzi and PierreEmerick Aubameyang and a stunning overhead finish from Lucas Torreira were enough to drag the Gunners to a win. At the other end of the table, a run of six defeats in seven league games had seen Sean Dyche’s Burnley slip into the bottom three. But they broke that poor run of form with a first win in nine league matches against Brighton thanks to a scrappy first-half goal from James Tarkowski at a wet and windy Turf Moor. Southampton’s new manager, Ralph Hasenhuttl, could not spark a response as Jannik Vestergaard’s error gifted Callum Paterson an easy goal as Cardiff City won 1-0 on home turf. West Ham United continued their fine recent form with a 32 come-from-behind derby win at home to Crystal Palace courtesy of goals from Robert Snograss, Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson.
