May the Force be with you... but take a pill

- BY JIM MURTY

HOW been able have I this 40 years to avoid watching one minute Star Wars of? No, I haven’t been on the cooking sherry. Well, all right, I have, but that’s only because the Son And Heir was at the Festive beer. No, the reason for this outbreak of Yodaspeak is because 2019 will be the year when I may finally start my Star Wars odyssey. I certainly have an incentive.

One of the major tourism events of 2019 will be the opening of Disney’s out-of-this-world attraction Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next summer in California’s Disneyland with an Autumn date for Disney World in Florida to follow.

And guess where America’s Travel Industry is planning to hold its annual fair next year... only Anaheim.

Have I the best job in the galaxy, or what?

Disney has been dripfeeding us news of developments at Galaxy’s Edge ever since last year’s IPW American Travel Fair in Denver, and that continued with a YouTube feed of the latest news this week.

Focusing on the two rides Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Disney Chief Imagineeer Scott Trowbridge (yes, I want to be one too when I grow up) gives us the skinny on it all.

Smuggler’s Run allows space fans to take control of different crew positions on the ride’s mock-up of Han Solo’s ship. So, that’s an elongated version of the Falcon’s cockpit and you’ll get a chance to smack the buttons on the panels.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is only a battle (or vehicle ride) between the First Order and the Resistance. And Disney ensures us that we’ll be hailed heroes when we return safely.

Now your diarist and rides have a mixed history and it was perhaps best not to watch the trailer and hear what Disney has in store after gorging on Christmas dinner.

The secret I’ve found though is motion sickness pills. Sure, every good Stormtrooper carries one.
