FLIRTING, POLAR BEAR-STYLE

-

EVEN polar bears know how to flirt — although the result in this case is unintentionally hilarious.

In the amusing scenes pictured above, a female bear was seen attempting to entice her tired mate to indulge in a passionate tryst.

The courting pair had been together for two weeks and narrator David Tennant explains the male was ‘getting tired’ of their romance, eventually settling down for a nap.

But his lady friend wasn’t ready to give up just yet, and the team’s ‘Snowball-Cam’ captured her rolling herself around in the snow in an attempt to seduce him, throwing herself deep into the snow and then posing on her back.

Her playful display — which sees her bending down and sticking her bottom in the air (above left) for a grand finale — eventually gets his attention and he heads over tonuzzle his mate. Another camera sent in to watch the polar bears ended up playing a more active role.

After spotting a group of young male bears play fight, the filmmakers sent in the ‘blizzard-cam’ — a remote-controlled camera on skis that can reach speeds of up to 65kph. Unfortunately the bears decided it was a far more interesting prospect and decided to try to pull it apart.

In order to save the camera, the team had to instruct it to exit quickly. They triggered it to release the attached Snowball-Cam to serve as a diversion as it sped away.

After spotting it, the bears spun it around with their paws for a quick game of football (right).

‘Finally, it got destroyed when a bear broke it in half under the weight of his paw,’ says Matt. ‘But we were still able to retrieve the footage when he wandered off.’
