Money can’t heal grief ... how Rio’s fiancée took the trolls to task

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

RIO Ferdinand’s fiancée Kate Wright has replied to online criticism of their lifestyle, saying ‘money can’t heal grief’.

The ex-England footballer – who lost his wife to breast cancer in 2015 – is on holiday in the Maldives with their three children and former reality TV star Ms Wright.

The couple, who spent Christmas Day on a private island, have been sharing pictures of their trip on Instagram, including going dolphin spotting, having expensive dinners and bathing in infinity pools. Ferdinand, 40, posted an image of the family eating in an all-glass underwater restaurant.

However, one of his followers responded with a remark about the couple’s wealth. The comment has now been removed. Ms Wright, 27, replied: ‘Money doesn’t make looking after three children that have lost their mum easier. Yes we can have nice holidays but money can’t bring back loved ones and heal grief. Looking after children and caring for them comes from the heart, not the bank.’

Ms Wright started dating Ferdinand in 2017, two years after he lost his wife, Rebecca Ellison, 34. Ferdinand opened up about his loss in a Bafta-winning BBC film, Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum And Dad, in which he explored ways of managing grief.

The former Manchester United player, who is dad to Lorenz, 12, Tate, ten, and seven-year-old Tia, revealed last year that Rebecca had encouraged him to find love again once she had died.

He proposed to Ms Wright, who used to appear in ITV’s The Only Way Is Essex, in November during a family holiday to Abu Dhabi popping the question in front of his children. Ms Wright has previously spoken of her close relationship with Ferdinand’s children, revealing they have told her they are keen for her to have a baby.
