‘So evil’ – fury at dogs left in bucket

- By David Raleigh

CAGED in a bucket and dumped in a ditch – this is how these petrified pups were left by a cruel owner.

Thankfully, the cute pair, christened Sugar and Spice, will be spending the new year in the loving company of animal charity staff.

Discarded in a sickening condition, the adorable dogs were rescued by Limerick Animal Welfare (LAW) after they were discovered by a walker last Saturday.

‘Our veterinary nurse Martina gave the puppies a much-needed wash and treated them for fleas, vaccinated them and gave them a worm dose. They are feeling so much better already,’ a LAW spokesperson wrote on the group’s Facebook page.

‘Staff have named these two Sugar and Spice and hope only nice things happen to them from now on.’

Earlier the group explained how ‘the little puppies cruelly abandoned with wire over the top [came] to the sanctuary today’.

‘It is hard to imagine how anyone could be so cruel to these gorgeous little puppies. [They’re] now out of danger and safe under the care of Limerick Animal Welfare.’

More than €1,000 has been raised in 24 hours for the puppies who were ‘cruelly dumped on a remote country road’.

Appealing for donations, the charity said the dogs needed a lot of care and attention including microchipping, and neutering. ‘Please donate towards their care,’ they added.

Many have reacted with anger at how the dogs were discarded before they were rescued. ‘So, so evil,’ wrote one woman. Another stated: ‘I hope they learn from what they’ve done and work to make sure it doesn’t happen to other dogs to make up for it.’

To donate €4 to LAW, you can text LAW4 to 50300 – with 100% of the €4 text cost going to LAW across most network operators. Some operators apply Vat which means that a minimum of €3.25 will go to LAW service provider, LIKECHARITY.
