1989: The Year That Made Us, 8pm, National Geographic A NEW, six-part account of how the seeds of change were sown across 12 pivotal months, dealing with everything from the fall of the USSR and the rise of Al Qaeda to the arrival of the World Wide Web and The Simpsons. It’s told very much from the US perspective, but a lot of this is a global story.
TRUE TALE
Escape At Dannemora, 9pm, Sky Atlantic DON’T expect action from this prison-break drama, directed by Ben Stiller and based on a 2015 real-life escape in New York. It’s a slow-burn, finely acted affair, with Benicio del Toro as the killer mastermind and Patricia Arquette as the prison shop supervisor who’s having an affair with an inmate.
