Shelbourne’s front doors shut
THE great and the good have sauntered through its famous revolving door, but the Shelbourne’s entrance is to be shut from today for a revamp ahead of its 195th birthday.
The five-star Dublin hotel is nearing the end of a multi-million euro refurbishment which will see the Horseshoe Bar and Lord Mayor’s Lounge temporarily closed.
While high-level wining and dining can still be enjoyed in the Shelbourne’s Saddle Room and No. 27 Bar and Lounge, those wishing to frequent the hotel will have to access it on Kildare Street as work on the main entrance, lobby and reception begin.
The hotel’s front door is scheduled to reopen looking refreshed on April 5, when internationally acclaimed designer, Guy Oliver, has finished working his magic.
When guests swing back into the Shelbourne in spring, they can expect to be greeted by a stunningly bright, marble and gold lobby, while a new glazed ceiling will flood the historic staircase with light.
Initially three adjoining townhouses, the distinguished hotel was founded by Tipperary man Martin Burke in 1824.
The hotel’s capacity for exclusive events will be extended too when work is complete as the Adam and Deirdre suite’s refurbishment includes the addition of a pantry and kitchen for private parties.
We’ll toast to that!
