MEET THE BARNET HEROES

- By MARTIN ALLEN Martin Allen was talking to Peter Lansley

I SPOKE to manager Darren Currie, in charge of Barnet for only 10 days, on their jubilant team bus after the game. He has been working under John Still for seven years, learning the trade, and to see him go and win at Bramall Lane — where his Uncle Tony has a stand named after him — is magnificent. When I was a player at West Ham, Darren was a youth-team player. He had the most cultured left foot but he had this Mohican hairstyle, like the singer Limahl from Kajagoogoo. So I nicknamed him Kajagoogoo. John and Darren gave me an update on the squad yesterday…

MARK COUSINS

Consistent goalkeeper and a great signing by John Still. Fantastic shot-stopper, his save at the end will never be forgotten. Very dry sense of humour.

CHEYE ALEXANDER

A modern full back with plenty of pace. Good on the ball. What a way to celebrate his 24th birthday!

CALLUM REYNOLDS

Captain, a leader of men and a decision-maker. With his return to fitness, Barnet are capable of getting back to League Two. Can play from the back.

CRAIG ROBSON

Plucked by an expensive network of scouts from Bognor Regis. He is superb in the air and fearless. Keeps his passing simple.

DAN SWEENEY

Dan played for me as a holding midfielder. I liked everything about him apart from his flash boots and ponytail. We had a love-hate relationship — I loved him and he hated me! I pushed him every day as I knew he could play at Championship level. He was brilliant yesterday. The scouts will be hovering.

ELLIOTT JOHNSON

Consistent, good going forward. After a year out injured, he’s come back stronger and quicker.

CHARLEE ADAMS

A former West Ham player, so he’s very good technically.

JACK TAYLOR

When he came up to me from the youth team, I drove the lad on with hard training to make him strong. Outstanding technically, Jack will play in the Championship.

MEDY ELITO

Medy has been around the lower levels, ducking and diving. He has good skills with both feet.

EPHRON MASON-CLARK

Quick feet and a great attitude. He switched flanks so the manager could coach him at close quarters.

SHAQUILE COULTHIRST

Real pace and energy. It was no surprise to see him brought down for the penalty.
