Now Lady Gaga plunges into her Marilyn moment
AFTER her Madonna moment at the Golden Globes, Lady Gaga turned to Marilyn Monroe for style inspiration at her next awards season stop-off.
The pop star and actress, 32, seemed to channel the Hollywood icon at the National Board of Review Awards, wearing a plunging black Ralph Lauren tuxedo dress with a thigh-high split and a feathered stole.
She ditched the blue-wash hair that matched her Valentino gown at Sunday’s Globes, returning to her trademark platinum blonde.
And in a throwback to the glamour of 1950s Hollywood epitomised by Ms Monroe, the actress wore her hair in retro curls and added strong red lipstick.
After losing out to Glenn Close in the best actress category at the Globes, Gaga took the award at Tuesday’s ceremony for her leading role in Bradley Cooper’s remake of A Star Is Born. On Sunday she won the best song award for her hit Shallow from the film – and produced one of the evening’s most memorable images when she was kissed by her fellow songwriters.
It was reminiscent of Madonna’s 1984 Material Girl video, in which the pop star receives the simultaneous attentions of a group of male dancers.
In her speech at Tuesday’s ceremony, Gaga thanked her director and costar for ‘entrusting’ her to be his leading lady, calling Cooper a ‘true musician’ and a ‘visionary’. She added: ‘This is a tremendous honour.’
A Star Is Born – the third remake of a story first filmed in 1937 – has been nominated for awards including best actor and actress at this year’s Baftas.
