Kate goes green! Royal dons Irish tweed jacket

- By Lynne Kelleher

KATE Middleton has the look of the Irish these days.

And Irish label Dubarry is already enjoying the ‘Kate effect’ as the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in one of its jackets yesterday for her first royal engagement this year.

Kate channelled country chic in the €450 tweed jacket by the label, which is also favoured by celebrities including Geri Horner and Amanda Holden.

The mother-of-three wrapped up against the cold in the Dubarry Bracken jacket as she visited the King Henry’s Walk Community Garden in London. The label described the jacket as ‘a practical addition to your country attire wardrobe’.

There has already been spike in its sales after Kate wore the item. Michael Walsh, marketing director at Dubarry, said the extended British royal family have been loyal customers of Dubarry for many years.

‘Kate Middleton’s choice of our Bracken Tweed Utility Jacket is no surprise to us as it is one of our best-selling jackets in the UK and a piece that is a perfectly natural fit for her styling,’ he said, adding: ‘There has been a notable uplift in our website traffic and indeed sales of the Bracken jacket in the immediate aftermath of the extensive online coverage.’

Sales of clothes worn by Prince William’s wife tend to rocket in what is called the ‘Kate effect’. Meanwhile a white ballgown created by Kerry designer Don O’Neill for Meghan Markle became one of her most popular looks during a recent tour Down Under.
