QUESTION

Dear Linda, I put on 10 lbs over the Christmas period, to add to the 2st overweight I already am. It keeps me in a spiral of self-loathing and disgust and leads to further comfort eating. I can’t bear to even look at myself in a mirror and self-criticise constantly. My life has become so miserable over my weight, and my health is certainly suffering. I no longer socialise and if it wasn’t for the need to keep the roof over my head I wouldn’t even want to go to work. I am riddled with guilt. Please help. Thank you, J.

ANSWER

Firstly you must come to the realisation that your attitude to yourself is the first thing you should tackle. You are not your weight and treating yourself with self-destructive criticism is not the answer. You need to learn to be your own best friend, change your strategy. Using kind and loving words of encouragement, joining a weight loss programme or even going to Overeaters Anonymous will give you insight into why you comfort eat. Reaching out and asking for help will point you in the right direction.

FIRST CARD (MAKE A DECISION)

By drawing this card Heaven asks, ‘What do you want?’ Sometimes the Universe asks us to be the decisionmaker, and this is one of those times. Instead of passively allowing life to push you around like a canoe without oars, you’re counselled to take charge and set your own course. Know that Heaven gives you all of the resources you need to pull yourself out of any situation, as long as you make a firm and clear decision. Your decisiveness is the catalyst for Heaven to clear the way for your manifestation. Let go of all fears or worries, and focus only on the destination you intend to reach. Enjoy your journey along the way.

ADVICE/OBSTACLE (SELF-FORGIVENESS)

You’ve been very hard on yourself lately. While it’s healthy to hold yourself up to high standards, this card says you’ve bordered on self-abuse. Everyone makes mistakes, and it’s normal to feel regret occasionally. What’s important, though, is how you handle these mistakes. As you focus on your positive attributes, your selfesteem will increase and your stress levels diminish. Remember that guilt is the opposite of love. Affirm: ‘I ask that all effects of my mistakes be undone in all directions of time and I now release all guilt completely. I love my true self, from top to bottom.’

OUTCOME (STAY OPTIMISTIC)

This is it — your time has come! You’re about to collect your rewards, and your prayers will be answered. However, a bit more patience and guided action on your part is required. The extra wait and effort are definitely worth it. You’re just about there, and this card asks you to keep your faith about miracles and heavenly magic. Use your imagination to visualise that your dreams have already come true. Before long, you’ll be enjoying the tangible results.
