Cliona: Be my Valentine... but just to warn you, I’m a wee bit awkward!

-

SHE’S the beauty who has set pulses racing on RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars, but singleton Cliona Hagan says she’s a lonely heart for a good reason... shyness.

Despite almost seamless routines on the dancefloor, the country singer says nerves get the better of her when it comes to romance.

However, with her 30th birthday fast approaching and ahead of St Valentine’s Day next week, she said she was to offers.

And even though she possesses striking good looks, the Co. Tyrone star isn’t fussy about who steps up with the offer of a date.

‘Trust me, my standards aren’t high whatsoever. I will take anything going,’ she said.

‘If anybody wants to take me on a date, by all means. I like a good steak. Starters, steak and a dessert.’

However, Cliona said her awkwardness when approached by potential suitors could often get the better of her.

While the singer is confident taking to the stage, she’s a pile of nerves when it comes to flirting, as she explained: ‘I am a wee bit awkward and shy. If somebody who was totally my type and smiling at me across the bar, I would get all flustered and not know where to look.

‘If he came over and started speaking to me, I would begin stuttering and say something very random. I am a complete mess.’

But willing to dive in at the deep end, Cliona won’t rule out an appearance on First Dates as part of her quest to find love – but she thinks she might benefit from dating lessons beforehand.

‘I would make a complete idiot of myself but it would be good telly for everyone,’ she laughed.

‘I think I need to learn how to date properly and keep the conversation going.’

In the past, Cliona has toured with country singer Nathan Carter, who she says is ‘lovely’. And Cliona revealed that she was attracted to country singers in general.

She said: ‘Nathan, wow, he is dropdead gorgeous. Your jaw would hit the floor. There are loads of really good-looking fellas and they are all from different age groups. They are really hot.’

Cliona’s American smooth dance to Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like A Woman on DWTS at the weekend left her in a strong position heading into switch-up week.

The contestants’ new partners will be revealed on Can’t Stop Dancing on RTÉ One at 8.30pm on Friday – with the singer hoping that either Kai Widdrington or Vitali Kozmin take the place of her current professional dancer, Poland’s Robert Rowinski.
