Struggling to understand

-

MARIE Mooney has been left frustrated by the walkouts as she tries to arrange care for her daughter Laura, who is severely disabled.

Laura, 38, usually attends day services at a St Michael’s House unit from 8am to 4pm each day.

The centre needs nurses to attend to clients’ physical and intellectual needs so it is closed during the strikes. At a loss: Laura Mooney, ‘There is no explanation as far as 38, misses her daily care she [Laura] is concerned,’ Marie said. ‘She thinks she’s going to her day unit. She’s disappointed when the bus doesn’t come and then [she’s without] her daily activities… stimulation… personal care – the days are long for her. Routine is paramount to her satisfaction, to her wellbeing.’

Marie is taking extended breaks from work to care for Laura and says she is struggling and could not manage without the ‘help of family and friends’.
