Something in the air? 13 injured as Phil Collins gig becomes a mudbath
MORE than a dozen Phil Collins fans were taken to hospital during the star’s Not Dead Yet tour – as downpours turned the gig into a mudbath.
Some 13 concert-goers were taken to hospital – 11 of them reportedly with broken bones after slipping over in the atrocious conditions.
Another fan was said to have ‘clinically died’ after collapsing at the gig in New Zealand on Wednesday – before being resuscitated by a stranger.
He is in a serious but stable condition following the incident at the venue at the Mission Estate winery in Hawke’s Bay.
St John Ambulance member Brendon Hutchinson said of the heroic bystander: ‘He was with him and just knew what to do... so it was just fantastic that he jumped in and did that.’
Mr Hutchinson said the rains followed a spell of hot weather in the area, adding: ‘It’s been really hot and dry the past few days, but when you get rain like that it can get really slippery, so a few people fell or slipped.’
Former Genesis singer and drummer Collins, 68, toured the US for a month in October and is set to tour Europe this summer. In recent years, In The Air Tonight singer has been forced to perform seated at concerts due to back and foot problems.
