QUINN’S GRAND PLAN IS NOT ENOUGH FOR REAL CHANGE

-

NIALL QUINN’S intentions are good, as always. He wants to save the game of football here in this country, and is targeting a whopping amount of money (more than €40million if necessary) to do so. But...

Is the game in its present state salvageable? And should the League of Ireland not be looking at rugby, and examining how the IRFU stripped four teams out of our domestic game and made them as good and often better than Europe’s elite?

Choosing four teams in Ireland to fund, and support, perhaps for inclusion in either the English or Scottish leagues, is the only sure way of winning back belief in football in sufficient numbers. Dundalk and Cork City, and two others.

The remainder can continue to do their best in what remains of the League of Ireland.

It’s not ideal, but is it not the only realistic way to save the game here for this generation and the next?
