Turkey presses China on camps
TURKEY has called China’s treatment of Turkish minority Uighurs ‘a great cause of shame for humanity’.
Foreign ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said it is ‘no longer a secret’ that China has arbitrarily detained more than a million Muslim Uighurs in ‘concentration camps’.
Urging the closure of the detention facilities, Mr Akoy’s comments followed the reported death in a Chinese prison of Uighur musician and poet Abdurehim Heyit, who had been jailed for eight years over one of his songs.
