Newry murders father ‘to sell taxi’ to f ly here

- By Alison O’Reilly

POLICE investigating the suspected murder-suicide involving a teenage girl, her mother and a man are probing one line of inquiry that it may have been carried out by a male neighbour.

Detectives are exploring the possibility it may have been a case of domestic violence committed by a man the dead woman was involved with.

It’s understood the man, who is believed to be from Scotland, lived in the same complex as the dead woman and her daughter.

The bodies of Giselle (Irina) Marimon Her- rera, 37, and her 15-year-old daughter Allison were discovered at their Glin Ree Court apartment in Newry, Co. Down, on Thursday morning.

The body of a 38-year-old man – who has not been publicly named yet – was also discovered at the scene. The Police Service of Northern Ireland says they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the three deaths.

Yesterday, it was reported that Giselle’s parents, Fabian Marimon and Elizabeth Herrera are seeking the help of the Colombian government to grant them a visa to fly to Ireland.

Speaking on Caracol Radio, a sister of Giselle said that another family member, who lives in Newry, alerted the police after several days of not being able to make contact with her sister.

The Colombian radio station is believed to have reported that the murdered woman’s relative was present when the police entered the property.

Yadeli Marimon said: ‘The father of the woman is willing to sell his taxi to travel to the European country and to be able to say goodbye to one of his children as it should be.’

Teenager Allison Marimon was a pupil at the nearby Newry High School and yesterday Principal Iestyn Brown told a local newspaper that the entire school community is ‘deeply shocked and saddened’ at the news of Allison’s death. He said: ‘Allison was a talented, kind, courteous and wellmannered pupil with a beautiful smile. Both staff and pupils are profoundly saddened by her death and she will be remembered with great affection by her fellow pupils and staff. Our hearts go out to Allison’s family circle: they are foremost in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.’

Police in Newry are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, describing the three deaths as an ‘unspeakable tragedy’.

A police spokesman said: ‘I believe that Giselle and Allison were still alive in the early hours of Sunday morning but family members have not been able to contact them since.

‘The exact circumstances of what happened in their home remains the subject of our investigation. I would appeal today to anyone who came into direct contact with either Giselle or Allison, or communicated with them via text or social media, since Friday to contact detectives in Newry.’
