Remember, it’s a man’s world too.. so here’s to all-male day!

- BY JIM MURTY

ONLY 255 days until International Men’s Day so plenty of time to think up that lads’ holiday. And sure aren’t you owed after giving your beloved her favourite spa break for International Women’s Day yesterday?

Of course this isn’t scientific but a lot of men like their sport. I know, I know, women do too!

With International Men’s Day falling on November 19, that means soccer and rugby season.

That’s a long time to wait though for your fix. If you’re a racing nut you’ll have Cheltenham sorted out but there is plenty for the soccer, golf and rugby fan to look forward to as well.

Abbey Travel (www.abbeytravel. ie) offers a range of deals for both international and club matches. If you want to be on the march with Mick’s Green and White Army then you might, as a sample, check out Abbey’s Gibraltar offer.

Two nights’ accommodation for March 22 and 23 with ticket for the match and staying at the O’Callaghan Eliott Gibraltar is €359.

Abbey also offers a host of club packages... and you know which is the right team to follow!

You’d have had to be hiding under a stone not to know that the Rugby World Cup is on in Japan between September and November. Abbey has a range of packages including the semi-final and final. Not being unpatriotic but it’s fine if you just sign up for a three-match package at €6,199.

You want to know where International Men’s Day originated? Thought you might.

Well, the old Soviet Union, the US, Australia and Malta have each played their part but the date we (well, not enough of us here) mark, November 19, is Jerome Teelucksingh’s from the University of the West Indies’ doing.

Jerome wanted an all-inclusive day for all males, not just fathers, although of course he chose this date because it was his dad’s birthday. Which is as good a reason to promote Trinidad & Tobago as ayy. We found a week in Jerome’s home island at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad (www. expedia.ie) from November 19 for €1,132. Check www.kayak.co.uk for price offers from London.
