‘Rashy’ is told to be ruthless like Ronaldo

- By CHRIS WHEELER

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has told Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford to turn himself into a more ruthless finisher — like Cristiano Ronaldo. Rashford, 21, completed United’s sensational Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek with an injury-time penalty at Parc des Princes. It was the England international’s seventh goal in 16 games under Solskjaer but the United caretaker boss believes Rashford needs to follow the example of former Old Trafford favourite Ronaldo if he wants to become a true predator in the penalty box. ‘Rashy’s goals are sometimes worldies and he does have a sensational strike of the ball,’ said Solskjaer. ‘But you see the improvement and maturity and change in Cristiano’s goals from when he was young to now and he scores more from inside the box. Rashy has to improve his tap-ins, movement in the box and getting away from centre backs. You can get those extra five or 10 goals from staying in the box and he’s been told that.’ Solskjaer, who scored the majority of his 91 goals for the club from close range, has been working on the youngster’s game and believes he can also learn from Romelu Lukaku. The Belgium international, praised by his manager for scoring the most goals in training, is on a run of six in three matches. ‘I keep battering Rashy after the training session has finished that he should score as many goals as Rom,’ added Solskjaer. ‘He should always get those simple tap-ins and finishes from close range, like Rom has been scoring in the last few games.’ Rashford’s camp are in contract talks with United and Solskjaer hopes the Manchester-born player will stay at Old Trafford for the rest of his career to challenge Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring record for the club.
