Little Mix star takes on body shamers and trolls
SHE’S become an icon of female empowerment and a role model for her fans.
And Jesy Nelson has revealed she teamed up with the BBC for a forthcoming documentary exploring body image and mental health, titled Jesy Nelson: My Story.
The Little Mix singer will look at how growing up in a social media-fuelled age of selfies, body shaming and trolling is having a profound impact on young people’s mental health.
Having lived in the spotlight and under the scrutiny of the media for the past seven years, the 27-year-old star will bring this unique insight and passion to the documentary.
She is set to share her very personal experiences, as well as talking to young people.
Jesy, pictured, commented: ‘This is a project really close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be working with the BBC on a documentary that will both challenge me personally and also highlight a hugely important issue affecting young people today.’
The singer took to her Instagram account to announce the news, sharing a video of herself discussing the new project.
She seemed excited as she introduced the project to fans, explaining: ‘Mental health awareness is something we should all be talking about more.
‘Having suffered myself I decided I want to do something about it.’
Jesy has been candid about her own experience with body shaming and trolling over the years, and was viciously targeted when she was a contestant on The X Factor in 2011.
She memorably broke down during the competition as she discussed how hard it had been dealing with negative comments from complete strangers.
