More footballers’ wives accuse Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories – as she hits back
THE war of the WAGs escalated dramatically yesterday – as more footballers’ wives entered the fray.
Coleen Rooney has been locked in an extraordinary bust-up with Rebekah Vardy after accusing her of leaking stories to the Press.
But Ms Vardy denies the claim – saying it was the work of hackers who broke into her Instagram account.
Yesterday, fellow WAGs Danielle Lloyd and Chantelle Heskey pitched in – supporting team Rooney.
Ms Lloyd told ITV’s This Morning: ‘I’ve had run-ins with Becky before over similar things. I think she did it. Sadly I really do. I think it’s a shame because she probably never thought she was going to get caught out.’
Ms Vardy responded by accusing Ms Lloyd, 35 – who has been romantically involved with players including Teddy Sheringham, Marcus Bent, Jamie O’Hara and Jermain Defoe – of being bitter because she did not help her find another footballer boyfriend.
She tweeted: ‘Danielle Lloyd making false claims on This Morning that we have had “similar run-ins” is utter b ******** . She is just fuming that I “didn’t get [husband] Jamie recruiting” for her like she asked me to.’
Meanwhile, Ms Vardy – expecting her fifth child with England player Jamie – told how she has received death threats following the row.
In an exclusive interview with the Mail, she said: ‘Over 24 hours, this has escalated and escalated... I have been told that I should die, that my children should die, my unborn child should die. It would be unacceptable for anyone. I am tough, but this has made me cry. It is hard to explain how horrible it has been.’
The spat began after mother of four Ms Rooney, 33, who is married to exEngland player Wayne, became suspicious that someone close to her had been leaking details of her life to the media. She set a whodunnit-style trap, planting fake stories on her social media accounts then blocking all her followers until only one was left with access to her messages.
Then, in a move that led to her being dubbed ‘Wag-atha Christie’, she publicly named Ms Vardy – who has referred the allegation to her lawyers and suggested the stories could have been leaked by hackers who broke into her Instagram account.
Yesterday Ms Heskey, the wife of ex-England footballer Emile, also leapt to Ms Rooney’s defence.
The mother of three, 41, told Good Morning Britain: ‘She’s a lovely girl, has a lovely family and I don’t think she’s just done this overnight. This is something she’s investigated over a long period of time.
‘It’s a small circle of friends that you’ve got, so to find out it’s someone on your personal social media, someone you’re supposed to trust, it must be hard. I think her whole life is played out in public as it is. She’s a private person and I think enough is enough.’ After Ms Rooney went public with the claims, she and Ms Vardy had an emotional phone conversation. Ms Vardy, 37, told the Mail yesterday: ‘I said to her: “Coleen, what on earth have you done?”
‘It was not an easy phone call. She said to me: “I’m not pointing the finger” and I said: “You have just annihilated me in public and hung me out to dry. The whole world hates me!”’
Ms Vardy said she had given ‘quite a few’ people the password for her own Instagram account in recent years, including a PR firm and an advertising agency. Yesterday, Ms Vardy’s father, Carlos Miranda, 66, said: ‘I can’t believe a pro’s wife would say something like that to another pro’s wife without any proof whatsoever. ‘Jamie and Wayne played together and it’s just awful that people can make accusations like that, especially when Rebekah is pregnant.’ Yesterday, police attended the Vardys’ mansion in Lincolnshire following the abuse from online trolls.
