Tottenham offer Euro bonanza to Mourinho

- EXCLUSIVE By SAMI MOKBEL

JOSE MOURINHO will be in line for a lucrative seven figure bonus if he manages to steer Tottenham to next season’s Champions League.

Sportsmail understands the Special One will net in the region of £2million if he can complete what looked like mission impossible when appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor in November.

The Portuguese boss took the reins with Spurs 11 points adrift of fourth place, and at the time Spurs offered Mourinho the bonus – given the massive importance placed on maintaining their Champions League status and the scale of the task.

But if the former Manchester United manager can mastermind a surge into fourth place, he will be financially rewarded for retaining their Champions League status.

Of course, Spurs can also rely on winning the Champions League to book their place in next

year’s competition. Tottenham face Red Bull Leipzig in the last 16. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has a history of rewarding his players and managers for performing well and given the club’s position when he took the job, Jose, right, would be deserving of his financial bonus if he can keep Tottenham among European football’s elite. Spurs’ recent spate of injuries, notably star striker Harry Kane, makes the task harder. But Mourinho, who has already signed Gedson Fernandes from Benfica, wants to strengthen his squad to help ease his injury problems. AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek is a target but Spurs have cooled their interest in Porto striker Ze Luis. Elsewhere, Queens Park Rangers have snapped up Tottenham winger Jack Clarke on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old spent the first half of the season back with his first club Leeds after joining Spurs in the summer for £7million but the deal was cancelled due to a lack of game time. Clarke made just one appearance in the Championship.
