Under the microscope

TV personality and journalist Anne Robinson, 75, takes our health quiz.

- Interview by LOUISE FLIND

CAN YOU RUN UP THE STAIRS?

YES, normally I see a trainer twice a week. On a good day we do three miles but it’s a minute run, a minute walk, and I do Pilates every week. I loathe exercise but have seen too many women hobbling around through lack of it, so I am prepared to suffer.

HOW ARE YOU COPING DURING THE PANDEMIC?

I HAVE my daughter and her family with me. The weather has made a huge difference because we can play tennis, cricket, badminton and table tennis. Everyone beats me and playing Scrabble is my only chance to even the score. I’m having my Pilates and training sessions via Zoom, too.

EVER DIETED?

EVERY morning I wake up and I want to be 5lb lighter. I’m just under 9st; but I’m only 5ft 3in. My weight is a ridiculous preoccupation because I am about to start filming a documentary.

ANY VICES?

I DON’T drink, smoke (I gave up 30 years ago) or eat junk food, but I love chocolate.

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

ALCOHOLISM is rife in my family. I have an underactive thyroid, which my mother had. The symptoms are tiredness and irritability. Harder to diagnose in my case for obvious reasons.

HAD ANYTHING REMOVED?

I HAD a hysterectomy 25 years ago for reasons that are too gory for the men reading this.

EVER HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY?

I HAD a facelift in 2004 because I thought I was starting to look like my mother.

IS SEX IMPORTANT?

OF COURSE, provided the person you’re having sex with is witty, has integrity and some money in his pocket.

EVER BEEN DEPRESSED?

YES, when I get on the scales.

WHAT STOPS YOU SLEEPING?

I READ too much at night — I just get into a book and crosswords.

ANY PHOBIAS?

I’M TERRIFIED of birds.

LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER?

I’D LIKE to live longer while I’m still mentally and physically OK. But I don’t want to just lie there with tubes in me.
