CREAM OF THE SUMMER CROPS

Slip into trousers that will show off this season’s erogenous zone – the ankle

- PALAZZO PANT By ANNA PURSGLOVE

THE MODERN PEDAL-PUSHER

THE pedal-pusher was one of the best things about 1980s style: more flattering than shorts and easy to dress up or down with the right shoes.

The modern version is slightly longer than its 1980s forebear, but we think it’s every bit as versatile.

THE CROPPED

YOU may have noticed super-long wide-leg pants have become popular lately. They’re fine if you’re extremely tall, but if you’re not they pool annoyingly on the floor.

It’s better to go for a pair that ends just above the ankle. That way you

can show off a summer sandal and not worry about getting tangled up in fabric.

A note on bright or neon shades: these were forecast as a summer trend before lockdown, but nobody cares about trends any more, so steer clear.

THE HEMMED CASUAL TROUSER

IF YOU’RE looking for something casual but are heartily sick of jeans and jersey, then cotton turn-ups in a summery shade are the height of off-duty chic.

Opt for a grown-up, straight-leg style rather than anything too skinny.

THE CULOTTE

CULOTTES are the military jackets of the trouser world, in that they come back season after season.

This perma-trend is perfect worn with flats or heels. Look for a pair that ends mid-shin or at the knee.

THE SLINKY EVENING PAIR

TROUSERS really are good for every occasion this year. They’re ideal for changeable weather, and stylish if you opt for a pretty print on a seductive fabric like satin.

A cropped length in a light shade is a winning bet.

THE TAILORED CHINO

THINK of this style as the lovechild of the office trouser and the utilitarian chino. Try to find a pair that clears the ankle bone by at least an inch, or else it will just look like your trousers are too short.

This style doesn’t lend itself to being rolled up, so, if buying online, pay close attention to length measurements.
