Corbett girl has TikTok tips for grieving children

- By Lisa O’Donnell

THE teenage daughter of Jason Corbett has set her sights on helping children deal with grief by posting helpful tips on the video-sharing platform TikTok.

Sarah Corbett Lynch – whose father Jason was murdered in the US in August 2015, by his wife Molly Martens and her father Thomas Martens – posted a video entitled, ‘Things you shouldn’t say to a grieving child’. In the clip, the 13-yearold advises anyone speaking to a child who has lost a loved one not to make comments like, ‘Time heals everything’ and, ‘There is a reason for everything’.

Instead, she says that people should be reassuring and tell those who are grieving to ‘talk to someone they trust’.

As well as losing her father, Sarah’s mother died when she was a baby, her

Speaking about the aftermath of these tragedies, she told the Irish Daily Mail: ‘A lot of people weren’t sure [what to say]. They felt uncomfortable… a few of the things [said] were like, “They’re in a better place”. Some would say it because they have nothing else to say.’

Former FBI agent Thomas Martens, 69, was found guilty of second-degree murder, alongside daughter Molly, 35, following the death of Limerick man Jason, 39, in North Carolina in 2015. They were given 20-25 years in prison.

Sarah – who has written a series of children’s books – and her brother Jack are in care of Jason’s sister Tracey Lynch.
