I considered suicide after flop album and break-up with Orlando, says Katy Perry

- By Eleanor Sharples

SHE appeared to have the world at her feet as the queen of pop with a string of huge hits.

But Katy Perry has now revealed that she considered taking her own life in 2017 after splitting up with British actor Orlando Bloom and releasing a flop album.

The US singer, 35, later patched it up with Bloom, 43 – who is now her fiancé – and they are expecting their first child.

Ms Perry said she ‘crashed’ and almost ‘jumped’ after her romance with Pirates Of The Caribbean star Bloom broke down and her album Witness had disappointing sales.

She explained: ‘My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift – not that huge from an outside perspective – but for me it was seismic.

‘I had given so much out and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be, and then I was excited about flying high off the next record.

‘But the validation did not make me high and so I just crashed.’

Ms Perry, best known for her songs Firework and Roar, told Canada’s Sirius XM radio station how her Pentecostal faith helped her recover and that ‘gratitude’ saved her life.

She stressed: ‘It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way – and be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time.

‘Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life, because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped.

‘But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, “I am grateful, I am grateful!” even though I am in a s **** y mood.’

Ms Perry and Bloom split in February 2017 but got back together in April 2018.

She was previously married to comic Russell Brand, 45.
