Inquest over Nora Quoirin’s death to be held next month

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

AN INQUEST will be carried out next month into the death of Nora Quoirin, who went missing in Malaysia in 2019.

The latest development is expected to come as a great relief to the 15-year-old’s parents, Belfast native Meabh and Sebastian, who have been calling for an inquest since Malaysian police concluded she died of natural causes.

Nora died in August 2019 and was found in a jungle area following a ten-day search for her. Her body was discovered approximately 2km from where the family had been staying near Kuala Lumpur.

Her parents believe that the teenager was abducted from their holiday apartment in Malaysia.

Malaysian authorities had initially refused the inquest, but officials ruled yesterday that an inquest will take place from August 24 to September 4. Sixty-four witnesses will be called.

The inquest will be broadcast over Zoom due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The family of Nora will not be able to travel to Malaysia for the inquest.

Her parents told RTÉ News they are pleased with the news after months of calling for an inquest.
