Most will go west to boost the glam of their ’Gram...

STAYCATION­ERS have picked the most picturesqu­e holiday locations to add a splash of glam to their Instagram posts.

And almost two-thirds, 64%, of holidaymak­ers said they will stay in the country this year, according to new research.

Results of the survey, carried out for Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, reveal some of the ingredient­s to make the perfect Irish holiday along with our most ‘Instagramm­able’ backdrops.

According to the poll, which explores attitudes to travel for the remainder of the year, almost two-thirds of people, 64%, who were asked about holiday plans said that they were planning to holiday in Ireland at some stage this year. A further 23% were unsure about holiday plans right now, while just 13% had no plan to go on holidays at all this year. The research was carried out among a sample of 1,000 people across the country. When it comes to the perfect holiday post on Instagram, over a third, 36%, of all adults said that Connemara, Co. Galway, was the most picture-perfect spot for ‘the ’Gram’.

This was followed closely, with 34% of the votes for the Giant’s Causeway in Co. Antrim, its giant geometrica­l volcanic structure sure to add some fire to any Instagram Stories timeline. Other post-worthy locations to light up social media include: ÷ Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, Co. Fermanagh – which 12% quoted ÷ Howth, Co. Dublin – 11% ÷ English Market, Cork – 5% ÷ Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin – 2%

When it comes to our favourite influencer­s, Roz Purcell was at number one, with 11% choosing the ‘Hike-Life’ and ‘Natural Born Feeder’ blogger. Roz was followed closely by Pippa O’Connor, 10%, and Vogue Williams at 8% in the polls.

The simple pleasure of eating an ice cream on the beach was voted the most essential ingredient for the perfect summer holiday, with 50% of all votes.

Other ingredient­s for the perfect Irish holiday, the survey results show, include: ÷ Discoverin­g the local pubs and restaurant­s: 39% ÷ Taking a walk on coastal paths: 38% ÷ Have a full Irish for breakfast every day: 36% ÷ Getting lost going down country roads: 35% ÷ Having seafood and stout in the sun: 26% ÷ Visiting the local beer garden: 26% ÷ Plenty of lie-ins: 22%

Almost half, 49%, of those who took the survey said they believe it will be more than nine months before they even think about taking an overseas holiday again.
