Amazon’s primed! Tech giant to create 1,000 jobs in Ireland
TECH multinational Amazon has announced the creation of 1,000 permanent jobs in Ireland.
The company revealed yesterday that its Irish-based workforce will be increased to 5,000 in a major expansion plan over the next two years.
The new positions within the firm will be based at Amazon’s sites in Cork and Dublin – including those at Blanchardstown, Tallaght, Dublin city centre and north Co. Dublin.
The announcement of 1,000 new jobs was followed by confirmation Amazon intends to invest in a new 15,800-squaremetre campus in Dublin’s Charlemont Square, which is expected to open in 2022 and will serve as the home of the
Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) cloud computing workforce.
The vacancies Amazon is seeking to fill include roles for software development engineers, network development engineers, systems development engineers, optical development engineers, database engineers, DevOps engineers and support engineers.
In addition, the US-based giant is seeking data centre technicians, mechanical and electrical engineers, solutions architects, security specialists, big data specialists, technical and non-technical programme managers and account managers. Speaking about the expansion of Amazon’s Irish operations yesterday, AWS Ireland country manager Mike Beary said: ‘Amazon has been investing and growing in Ireland for over 15 years, and today, we are reaffirming and increasing that commitment.’
Mr Beary continued: ‘We have seen a surge in demand for cloud services in Ireland and globally, and we are excited to add 1,000 highly skilled roles so we can continue to help our customers to innovate and work towards building a robust digital economy.’
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar said: ‘It speaks to our ambition to make Ireland the tech capital of Europe and attract quality jobs in growth sectors.’
