Over-70s being punished for silly mistakes made by others

-

SO the over-70s, such as myself, are told to stay at home, avoid public transport and only shop at designated times,

It’s not the over-70s who do not use facemasks or ignore the hand sanitising stations when they use public transport or visit shops. It’s not the over-70s who ignore social distancing. It’s not the over-70s who work in meat factories and live in overcrowded accommodation. It’s not the over-70s who have house parties, and it certainly was not an over-70 who stood on the counter of a pub last weekend pouring alcohol down the throats of thirsty customers.

So when will the laws regarding the wearing of facemasks and other rules be enforced?

J. McCOURT, Dundalk, Co. Louth.

... AS an unreconstructed male in advanced years, I would like to tell this ridiculous Government that I will not be taking any more instructions from your church of compliant sheepism. Go to hell, in oldie-speak. ROBERT SULLIVAN,

Bantry, Co. Cork.

... IT IS only right that the over70s should be punished for the way they crowded into a trendy Dublin pub having shots poured into their mouths. Oh wait, that was not the over-70s but a younger crowd. The Government’s attitude seems to be: ‘Let’s take it out on the over-70s. It is easier: they will just do as they are told.’

The biggest spreader of this virus may actually be the Government themselves, letting people fly into this country and doing nothing to keep a check on them.

It is about time this Government started to do something more constructive to try to stop the spread of this virus.

DAVID BURKE, Gorey, Co. Wexford.

... IT’S disgraceful how this Government is treating us over70s – we are not the ones having house parties or making fools of ourselves. We are the people who worked hard all our lives, helping our country and making major sacrifices to keep it going. I will say to our Government: remember the nursing homes. We oldies have more sense than them. EAMON CRONIN,
