Pierce tells of his deep bond with Sean, 90

- By Olivia Fahy

ONE former Bond has paid tribute to another – on his 90th birthday.

Yesterday, Meath man Pierce Brosnan shared a picture of him with Scottish star Sean Connery.

Whoever your favourite Bond is, Connery was the original and is hailed as the best of all by many fans. Clearly, Brosnan, 67, feels the same way and hailed the star as his ‘inspiration’ for the role.

He posted a black-and-white shot of the dapper pair on Instagram and captioned the picture: ‘Happy 90th birthday Sir Sean Connery.

‘I was eleven years old in 1964, just off the plane from Ireland when I saw Goldfinger at the ABC cinema on Putney high street. You were my Bond of inspiration.’

Connery has had an illustrious career which includes roles in The

Rock, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade and The Untouchables – and even attempted an Irish accent in Darby O’Gill And The Little People.

Earlier this month, Connery was voted as the greatest James Bond ever in a survey by RadioTimes. com, with 44% of the vote, ahead of Timothy Dalton in second with 32%, and Brosnan third with 23%.

More than 14,000 people voted for their favourite, with actors pitted against each other in different rounds. Round one saw Connery beat Daniel Craig, with 56% to Craig’s 43%. Brosnan won round two with 76% to 24% for George Lazenby. Round three saw Roger Moore get 41% to Dalton’s 49%.

Moore starred in seven films, Dalton in two and Brosnan in four. Craig’s fifth film, No Time To Die, will be released in November.
