THE Great Irish Staycation Photo Competition

OVER €5,000 WORTH OF PRIZES TO BE WON

-

It’s been a summer like no other. As holiday season draws to a close in this the year of the staycation, we all have great stories of shared times with friends and family. We’ve been on breaks that more than ever represent freedom – and are a long way physically and emotionally from the dark days of total lockdown earlier this year.

While the weather may have been mixed, the craic was not. Across the island people have discovered new haunts and hidden gems, and rekindled acquaintances with places that might have been their childhood playgrounds. Many have even connected their families to parts of Ireland that mean a lot to them – but which they’ve never had time to visit and appreciate fully until this year.

Robbed of our spring, we have savoured our summer all the more – and no doubt snapped a few photographs along the way. And that is what the Irish Mail on Sunday wants to see.

We want you to send us your holiday snaps from all 32 counties of Ireland, the one photograph that encapsulates your Irish staycation this year, and a few short words to tell us the context of where and how the photograph was taken.

The best photographs will be printed in a special pullout in the Irish Mail on Sunday on September 27. We have over €5,000 in prizes, with the best picture – to be decided by this newspaper – getting a first prize of €2,000.

Remember, you do NOT need a high-end camera to capture that scene: a good-quality image from a smartphone will work just as well.
