When it rains, it pours! Get set for a wet weekend
MET Éireann has warned of long and heavy spells of rain over the course of what is expected to be a miserable weekend and, indeed, week ahead.
There will be some sunny spells and scattered showers today. It will be cool and breezy with highest temperatures of 13 to 17C, and moderate to fresh westerly winds. Tomorrow will see more rain, starting out in the west and then spreading eastward by afternoon.
The summary for the next several days is ‘fresh and breezy with showers or longer spells of rain at times.’
On Tuesday, temperatures may reach 22C, but it will be humid and muggy with plenty of cloud cover.
The forecaster predicted: ‘Monday will be mostly cloudy with rain spreading eastwards across the country through the morning. There will be further outbreaks of rain for the rest of the day and on Monday night, [and] highest temperatures of 16 to 19C.
‘Tuesday will continue mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain. It will be mild with highest temperatures of 18 to 22C.
‘Wednesday will be a cooler, fresher, bright day with sunny spells and scattered showers, with temperatures of 14 to 18C.’ It is predicted that while Thursday will be mainly dry, rain will spread from the west overnight leading into a damp weekend.
Met Éireann this week revealed that Dublin Airport recorded its dullest summer on record. Rainfall was above the long-term summer average everywhere in the country, while temperatures were below the summer average in 20 out 25 weather stations. That was topped off by storm-force winds and the rare occurrence of two named storms in August.
