‘It was the not knowing that made me anxious’

But with the pandemic, the premise of the show has changed slightly.

‘It’s the highlights of my favourite places from the first two series and also footage we haven’t used before from those trips,’ she says.

‘Then I will be cooking brand new recipes, inspired by my trips. They are creative recipes from all over the world that you can make at home. We put a shout out to viewers too for their favourite international dishes and picked the most interesting recipes that were sent in.

‘You get to travel from the comfort of your own home and do some armchair travelling, sit back and look at the wonderful scenery and see food from Mexico, South Korea, San Sebastian, South Africa, Portland, Toronto. So there are places you can dream about and plan to visit next year, please God.’

Catherine’s children Rowan, 16, and Charlotte, 18, were out of school like so many others and Rowan became involved in the family business before heading back to school.

‘Rowan was in Transition Year so there wasn’t any major pressure for him whereas my daughter Charlotte was Leaving Cert which is a whole different ball game,’ Catherine says.

‘Rowan rolled up his sleeves. I can’t say he volunteered but he was “voluntold” shall we say to help his poor mother in the kitchen by recording. So I had him on the other side of the camera filming me for Instagram. He was great, he did a great job.

‘It was company for me as well as it is hard to do that kind of thing on your own. I enjoyed the time with him. It was work but it was lovely to do something together.

‘Charlotte had her head down studying for the Leaving Cert, awaiting an announcement. Now it is predicted grades and we can’t do anything about that but I think she would have preferred to sit the exam, to be honest. That was a bit hard for her. She had to celebrate her 18th birthday during lockdown as well so that was tough.’

Now, with the results out today, it is an anxious time for all Leaving Cert students but Catherine says all parents can do is be there for their kids.

‘Charlotte is hoping to go to college but we will have to wait and see,’ Catherine says. ‘She has high ambitions about what she wants to do and we are not sure what the predicted grades will be like. But we have to take it on the chin whatever happens and just get on
