FOND OF A TALE, JANE?

■ THE son of Martin McGuinness has disputed Jane Fonda’s extraordinary Late Late Show yarn about the day she visited their family home back in the Seventies and witnessed a rather conveniently cinematic scene. As she sat in the sitting room with her six-year-old son Troy, she said, a bloodied body was carried in. But it seems, instead of showing any concern for the injured man, her then-husband Tom Hayden, who claimed Irish roots, spotted a teachable moment. He dipped his fingers in the blood, showed it to his son and said, ‘Your forefathers, your forebears, your people’. Hmmm. Not that we doubt Jane’s memory for a second, but this sounds like one of those stories that did not lose anything in the retelling…
