Better late than never ... the sun shows up!
‘Sunnier throughout the afternoon’
WE didn’t get much of a summer but we are getting an Indian one now with temperatures of 25C in a number of counties yesterday.
And it is expected to be another scorcher today as the east of the country gets the best of the September sun.
The Indian summer is thanks to an active Atlantic hurricane system and a warm ocean, with tropical air being sent up over Ireland, Met Éireann said. Temperatures reached as high as 24.7C in the Phoenix Park yesterday.
Dublin, Carlow, Kildare and Laois are currently forecast to be the warmest spots in the country today with the mercury hitting 25C or above. Most areas will however see 20C temperatures or around that with good spells of sunshine.
Meteorologist Joanna Donnelly said that the high pressure at the moment is set to dominate the weather for the rest of the week.
Met Éireann has said that the temperatures are 3-4C above the September average in all areas, with the highest temperatures looking likely to be in the eastern half of the country.
A Met Éireann forecaster said: ‘Any lingering showers in the east tomorrow morning soon to die out and becoming sunnier throughout the afternoon.
‘Highest temperatures will be 19 to 24C, and warmest in Leinster.’
