THE outstanding journalism of the Irish Daily Mail group was acknowledged by industry experts yesterday when the DMG group was nominated in 19 different categories for national media awards.
The shortlist for the 2020 News Brands Ireland Journalism Awards was announced yesterday.
Our outstanding coverage of news and sport, our unbeatable comment, our forensic investigations and business coverage resulted in 16 nominations for the press awards including three nominees for columnist of the year. Michael O’Farrell at the Irish Mail on Sunday was nominated in four categories: Political Journalist, Investigative Journalist and Business Journalist of the Year, as well as Scoop of the Year; Ian Begley at the Irish Daily Mail was nominated in the new category of Best Coverage of Covid; and there were three DMG nominations for Popular Columnist of the Year – Linda Maher and Lisa Brady of the Irish Daily Mail and Niamh Walsh of the Irish Mail on Sunday.
Jenny Friel and Maeve Quigley of the Irish Daily Mail were nominated for Popular Features Writer while Nicola Byrne of the Irish Mail on Sunday was nominated for Broadsheet Features Writer.
Craig Hughes of the Irish Daily Mail was nominated for News Reporter of the Year and Extra.ie was nominated for News Website of the Year
Our group political editor, John Lee, was nominated for Political Journalist of the Year and Mark Gallagher was nominated for Sports Journalist of the Year.
Adam Lacey of DMG Media was nominated for Best Use of Video. The awards continue to be sponsored by the National Lottery, which is now in its fifth year of sponsorship.
The Mail Group al s o received three nominations in the 2020 Media Awards, to be announced on Thursday.
The nominations for those include Best Sales Team; Best Sales Initiative (Video); Best Sales initiative (Cultural and Social).
