Sean Cox is in wife’s good books...

MORE than two years on from the attack outside Anfield that changed his life, Sean Cox and his wife Martina have opened up about how their love has endured since that devastatin­g night.

In an emotional interview on The Late Late Show, t he Dunboyne couple spoke of their journey since the night in Liverpool in April 2018 when Sean suffered life-changing injuries.

Before the show, Martina posed with a smiling Sean by his beside holding their new book, The Sean Cox Story, which was written with Susan Keogh.

The couple from Dunboyne, Co. Meath, offered their sincere thanks to the Irish public for their enormous generosity in raising millions of euro for Sean’s recovery following his attack.

The soccer fan was set upon by a group of away supporters outside Liverpool’s stadium ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Roma.

The father- of-three suffered severe brain injuries in the assault, and the Irish public, profession­al footballer­s and Liverpool fans alike have kept close tabs on his recovery.

Two Italian men were jailed over the assault, but the Meath man was left with permanent life-changing injuries.

However, in March the Coxes had reason to celebrate when Sean returned home to Dunboyne for the first time in two years. His wife Martina described it as ‘a long-awaited and welcome return to his home’ at the time.

‘Sean’s journey over this time has been challengin­g and difficult. However, today is an important and positive milestone for Sean and his family,’ she added.

Publishers of their book, Gill Books, wrote: ‘We are so proud to publish this story of how the Cox f amily showed strength and found hope in the face of an unimaginab­le tragedy.’
