MICHAEL Fassbender looks set to replace US megastar Brad Pitt as the main man in a forthcoming adaptation of hit thriller novel The Killer.

According to media reports in the US, the film adaptation of the popular French graphic novel will be directed by David

Fassbender will now play assassin

Fincher, of Fight Club and Se7en fame.

The Hollywood Reporter, says Fincher initially favoured Pitt for the role of a successful assassin whose conscience begins to interfere with his gruesome work.

However, the 57-year-old, who starred in Fight Club and Se7en, had to drop out of the adaptation due to previous commitments.

Now, 43-year-old Kerry heartthrob Fassbender has reportedly been cast as his replacement.

The Killer, originally published in 1998, was penned by French author Alex Nolent, who wrote under the pen name Matz, and was illustrated by artist Luc Jacamon. Fincher, who is renowned for his psychological thrillers, has reportedly been linked to the adaptation of The Killer since 2007.

Initially, Paramount headed up the project, but the adaptation has been taken over by Netflix, with physical production set to begin in September. It is understood Andrew Kevin Walker, who also worked on Fight Club and Se7en, will pen the screenplay.

Fassbender has not starred in a major film since 2019, when he appeared in X-Men: Dark Phoenix7. However, the Irish-German actor has a number of films in the pipeline, including comedy action sequel Kung Fury 2, in which he will play the role of Colt Magnum.
