Lowry shows glimpses of best form despite poor finish

- By PHILIP QUINN

SHANE Lowry was left to rue a weekend that got away from him as he finished just inside the top 50 at the WGC Workday Championship in Bradenton, Florida. The Open champion signed off with rounds of 76 and 73 as he fell back from two under par to three over overall. Lowry experienced a poor start and finish yesterday but in between displayed glimpses of the sort of form he seeks to earn his

Ryder Cup spurs. Five birdies from the third to the 12th made up for the bogey, double-bogey start and had Lowry on track to break 70 with two par fives to come. At the first of them, the 13th, he drove left into trouble, while at the next, the 17th, he found sand and then water as he ran up a brace of costly sixes. Cameron Smith (67) and Kevin Na (67) set the early clubhouse pace on 10 under par. Meanwhile, Seamus Power was unable to muster a final-day charge in the Puerto Rico Open in Rio Grande. Power teed off on 10 under, four shots off the lead, but a level-par 72 saw him drop outside the top 20. Branden Grace of South Africa carded a 66 for a one-shot victory on 19 under par. Starting at the 10th, Padraig Harrington signed off with a 70 for three under.
