Brosnan to exhibit his lockdown art for first time

- By Jennifer Ruby news@dailymail.ie

AS James Bond he always had an eye for the ladies. However, it turns out Pierce Brosnan also has a GoldenEye for art.

In fact he wields a paintbrush with as much gusto as 007 handles a Walther PPK.

Now the Co. Meath actor plans to exhibit the paintings he has been working on during lockdown. He found the chance to concentrate on his passion while spending time with his family at home in Hawaii.

His second wife Keely urged him to exhibit the works and he will now show them in Los Angeles before the end of the year.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Brosnan, 68, gave followers a glimpse of some of his paintings and said he realised the time has come to ‘let them go’ so that others can enjoy them.

The works include abstracts, landscapes and portraits, and display a range of influences. One, cartoon-like, depicts a scene from Brosnan’s 2005 comedy The Matador in which he ends up underwater in a hotel pool, still carrying a can of beer. Brosnan has already created a stir in the art world. Three years ago his portrait of musician Bob Dylan sold for €1.25million at an auction in Cannes for an Aids charity.

And in February he sold prints for charity of a four-panel work, depicting an earplugs that he created while on the set of GoldenEye in the mid-1990s.

Brosnan’s first job was as a graphic artist but he gave it up to become an actor. He took up painting when his first wife Cassandra was battling ovarian cancer.

In his Instagram post, he wrote: ‘I do ponder at times whether to show the work slowly practised since one dark night in 1987 when I first began to paint. However as my darling wife Keely [they married in 2001] says, you’re only going to paint so many in your lifetime. So come year’s end I shall have my first art show in LA... if not now when? Time to let them go.’
